3G Failover Solution Advisor

3G failover from 3Gstore

3Gstore's 3G Failover Solution allows you to utilize an affordable, reliable cellular broadband backup so that when your primary internet connection fails, you'll be back online and doing business again in a matter of moments. Even the most reliable cable internet service is only reliable about 99% of the time - meaning your business still faces up to 140 hours each year of "internet downtime" where your business is off-line!

This page includes details on 3Gstore's Failover Solution as well as an interactive order advisor to help you place your order for the appropriate equipment. If you have any questions about 3G Failover or would like to discuss your application with our expert staff before ordering, contact us.

3G Failover simply refers to maintaining a backup internet connection that takes over for the primary connection when it fails. 3Gstore’s 3G Failover Solutions utilize a cellular broadband connection that serves as a backup when your cable, DSL, or T-1 line goes down, so that your business does not need to come to a standstill in the event of an internet outage!

3Gstore's 3G Failover solution is affordable, easy to install, customizable to your needs, and does NOT require a contract.

Benefits to using 3G Failover for your business:

  • More affordable than investing in additional fixed-line (cable, DSL, T-1, etc) internet links
  • Reliable and secure
  • NO contract required, no penalty for canceling service in the future
  • Easy to set up and maintain, and all orders include 3Gstore's esteemed FREE toll-free technical support

The below video demonstrates failover with a Peplink Balance 30 router:

The video below shows how Peplink's Outbound Policy Management can optimize your active connections:

3G failover utilizes a 3G modem and a 3G router with failover capabilities (i.e. the ability to automatically switch over to a secondary connection when it detects that the primary connection has failed). If your current router is failover-capable and you prefer to leave your existing network equipment in place, you can simply add a 3G-capable network adapter to your failover-capable router (the network adapter will convert the 3G modem connection to ethernet and you will connect that to your router's WAN port). If your existing router is NOT failover-capable, you will need to replace it with one of the 3G failover routers we offer.

Option 1: Add the 3G Failover Solution to Your Existing Network

When you place your failover order, our 3G Failover Solution Advisor will guide you to select the appropriate gear.

3Gstore's 3G Failover Solution is incredibly affordable. The 3G USB modem costs $69.99. You will also need a 3G router, which costs $100-$400 (depending on the router you select).

The 3G service costs just $9.99/month, which includes 200MB of data - so if you don't use it at all one month or use 200MB or less, you pay just $9.99 (not sure how much 200MB is? check out our What Does 200MB Get Me? chart). One megabyte goes a long way in terms of ATM, kiosk, POS or similar applications - up to 2,000 credit card transactions can be completed with just one megabyte of data! If you DO use more than 200MB, overages are billed at $0.03/mb. To estimate what your service costs will be in the event of an outage at your business, enter the approximate number of credit card transactions, websites visited, and emails sent and received that will take place during an average internet outage below:

Keep in mind that there is NO CONTRACT for 3Gstore's failover service - if you determine that you no longer need it, or simply need to put your service on hold at any time, there is NO penalty for doing so (and you can always reactivate the service in the future!).

What is 3G Failover?

3G Failover simply refers to maintaining a backup internet connection that takes over for the primary connection when it fails. 3Gstore’s 3G Failover Solutions utilize a cellular broadband connection that serves as a backup when your cable, DSL, or T-1 line goes down, so that your business does not need to come to a standstill in the event of an internet outage!

What is a Failover Router and why is one needed?

A failover router is simply a router that has the ability to detect when a primary internet connection has failed and automatically switch to a backup connection. If your current router is failover-capable and you prefer to leave your existing network equipment in place, you can simply add a 3G-capable network adapter to your failover-capable router (the network adapter will convert the 3G modem connection to ethernet and you will connect that to your router's WAN port). If your existing router is NOT failover-capable, you will need to replace it with one of the failover-capable 3G routers we offer - you cannot use 3G Failover without a failover-capable router. See the diagrams below for examples of these two types of setups:

Why is the 3Gstore 3G Failover plan different?

We have been offering failover solutions to businesses for years. What makes this plan so unique is that it is low cost and does not require a 2 year contract. It is a month-to-month service plan, so you can cancel at anytime WITHOUT an early termination fee!

How much does the 3Gstore Failover plan cost?

The 3G USB modem costs $69.99. You will also need a 3G router, which costs $100-$400 (depending on the router you select). The 3G service costs just $9.99/month, which includes 200MB of data plus (overages are billed at $0.03/mb). not sure how much 200MB is? check out our What Does 200MB Get Me? chart

This seems more costly then the 5GB plans offered by Sprint, Verizon, AT&T, etc - why?

If you need 5GB of 3G service per month, this plan is NOT for you. This is a failover plan, meant to be used as a backup connection, while the plans offered by the major carriers are for daily use. While the 5GB plans offered by major carriers cost around $60/month, the 3G failover plan costs just $9.99/month plus for 200MB of data. If you do use more than 200MB in a month, overages are billed at $0.03/mb.

How can I anticipate how much data I’ll use?

When you visit our 3G Failover page, there is a cost estimator that will help you estimate much data you will use in the event of an outage with your primary connection. Depending on how long your primary connection is down for and what type of internet activity is done via the failover modem during the outage, most users’ monthly usage will be quite low. The $9.99/mo fee includes 200MB of data, and one megabyte goes a long way in terms of ATM, kiosk, POS or similar applications - up to 2,000 credit card transactions can be completed with just one megabyte of data (not sure how much 200MB is? check out our What Does 200MB Get Me? chart)! However, if you need to use the failover connection for more data-intensive activity, like streaming video or downloading large files, you may quickly reach the 200MB allowance and your expenses will be higher.

Which 3G devices are available?

We are currently offering the Sierra Wireless 598U. This modem provides great performance, works perfectly with the 3G failover routers, and features an antenna port for users who are in a weak signal area and need to add an external antenna or amplifier. For those who choose the Cradlepoint CBA750 network adapter, we also offer the Cradlepoint 3G Modem Cap as an alternative to the USB modem, which provides increased security and performance.

Who bills me for the monthly 3G service?

We have partnered with DataJack to provide the 3G service. DataJack is a nationwide 3G provider that utilizes Sprint’s data network on a wholesale basis. DataJack can bill you monthly by credit card or ACH.

How do I activate the 3G service once I receive the equipment?

Your service will be set up and ready to use when you receive it. Your failover modem will include a tipsheet to guide you on how to activate the modem in your computer and how to set up an online account with Datajack.

How do I monitor my data usage throughout the month?

You can set up an account on DataJack's website and check your usage throughout the month.

How do I order 3Gstore’s 3G Failover Solution?

It is simple, just visit http://3Gstore.com/failover and our Failover Solution Advisor tool will take you through the order step by step!

Is data pooling available?

Not with this plan. Depending on the number of locations for which you need to deploy a 3G failover solution, this plan may actually be cheaper then a M2M low-cost data plan. If data pooling is required for your application, contact us.

Can I get a fixed IP address?

Not with this plan. If your application requires a static IP address, contact us.

What is the return policy?

3Gstore has a 30-day return policy, which begins on the day your order ships. During the 30-day return period, your failover modem can be returned IF you have used less than 20MB of data. If you have used NO data, you may return the DataJack device for a full refund less a $15 restocking fee. If you have used up to 20MB of data, there will be a $15 restocking fee as well as a $20 usage fee. If you have used more than 20MB, we CANNOT accept any returns. You can of course cancel your service at ANY time - there just will not be a refund. Routers also fall under our 30-day return policy and can be returned either for 100% store credit or for a refund less a 20% restocking fee.

You can read our full return policy at http://3Gstore.com/rma
