First let's set the level expectation with portable routers and I have tried most of them from Dlink,Linksys,Cradlepoint and Pepwave. I bought this unit shortly after it was released to the public from 3GStore. Super fast shipping. When I got the unit I wanted to use it with my AT&T 4G Momentum. It took a couple firmware updates to get the modem to work. A big issue with Pepwave vs Cradlepoint is that Pepwave engineering is not focused on modem support and optimal performance of Cellular Modems, if you want the best 3G/4G support than this not your router got get the Cradlepoint CTR500 or MBR95 line of products. WHY ? Cradlepoint uses USB 2.0 and the Pepwave OTG uses 1.1. This is huge since the speeds that can be achieved with 4G modems can reach 20MB or faster and the USB 1.1 speeds max out at 11MB. Pepwave Tech Support tried tirelessly to figure out why my Cradlepoint router gave me 22MB DL and the Pepwave OTG could not get any faster than 7MB. Sitting side by side those are facts. So if you want a great router for WAW than both companies get you there. The 4G performance check mark goes to Cradlepoint. Your cash your decision.

As full time RVers, we love this little device. It allows us to set up a secure wifi network within our motorhome. We have a usb modem and 3G service from Millenicom (Verizon, 20GB). As long as we have Verizon 3G service it works great. It does also work to bring in the free wifi offered at RV parks, but that presents the most trouble. If they have passwords to access their service, it can be quite cumbersome to set up.

Delivers as designed. Takes a few minutes to setup but easy to switch modes after initial configuration. A good value. Lightening fast shipping from 3G Store.

Pros: ~ Extremely easy to set up. Basically, if you can answer the choices in the setup page, you will be on-the-air in no time. All pertinent configuration details are on one page, and not on multiple pages like my previous device.
~ Supports WEP / WPA / WPA2 / 802.1x. Even though WEP has largely been dismissed by a good part of the community, it is good to have available for backward compatibility with 'older' hardware. This was important to me.
~ Detachable antenna. A big plus!
~ Multiple Profiles: Since we do a lot of traveling, having multiple profiles means that I don't have to constantly re-enter site-specific credentials each time we move. A big time saver!
~ Can be used either as a WiFi Bridge, Repeater, or Client.
~ LED indicators.
Cons: ~ Does not support POE. The Pepwave must be located within reach of a power source, about 5or 6 feet. I'd sometimes like to be able to locate the Pepwave some distance away, in search of a better signal. Or, even mount it inside my 'Rootenna' antenna/enclosure outdoors.
~ 'Extended-range radio performance'. Nice Marketing Speak, but there are no specs on how many milliwatts (or, dBm) of power the radio is capable of, or how sensitive the receiver really is. Some actual 'numbers' for comparison purposes would be welcome. The typical operating range quoted doesn't infer anything to brag about. Perhaps I mis-read the details, though.
In summary, despite the 'shortcomings' noted, it does a fine job for the price, and I'd gladly recommend it

So far Pepwave Surf OTG works as described. Does pick up wireless signals better than my laptop antenna. Interface is fairly easy to use and straightforward. I use both the AC and DC plug in adapter.
I am also using it with a Novatel U760 air card. It works well with it also. Connection time is very good.
The only ding I would give it is when using the air card, Pepwave does not provide a signal strength in dBi like it does when on wireless. Hopefully updates will remedy this.
