In the event of a strong power surge such as those caused by lightning strikes to an antenna mounted outside, modems, routers and amplifiers can shut off and sustain severe damage. This leads to valuable time lost while your network is down, and costly replacements for new hardware.

Keep your connected equipment protected in the event of a power surge with the Wilson 50ohm Lighting Surge Protector. This powerful and easy-to-install surge protector is designed with state-of-the-art hardware to work seamlessly with 50ohm coaxial systems. In the event of a lightning strike to your antenna, this surge protector has been tested to protect connected devices from surges with less than 0.2 decibel attenuation. It is an essential for any network.

Using Your Wilson 50ohm Lightning Surge Protector
Proper installation and usage of the Wilson 50ohm Lighting Surge Protector can be achieved in a few simple steps. It is important to note that the protector is inserted inline between the outside antenna and the amplifier or adapter cable, and it must be adequately grounded by running a ground wire into the ground or concrete.

The protector does not connect directly to the amplifier or antenna. You will need a jumper cable to connect the surge protector to your equipment, and depending on your setup, you may also need additional connectors. The most common setup looks like this:

antenna -> 2' jumper cable -> surge protector -> cable -> amplifier

We carry two options for the 2' jumper cable:

NOTE: This is a lightning protector for 50ohm antennas/amplifiers. If you are using a 75ohm system, you need to purchase the 859992 75ohm Lightning Protector instead.

  • N-Female Connectors
  • Weather-proof
  • Attenuation <0.2 dB
  • Frequency range up to 3 GHz
  • Replaceable gas discharge element (manufacturer will replace as needed)
  • Impedance: 50ohm

The lighting protector must be grounded - to do this, you'll loosen the small screw on the suppressor and insert a grounding wire and run it into the ground or concrete (instructions are included).

How can I tell if the Replaceable gas discharge element needs replacing in the Wilson lightning surge protector?

Per Wilson/ weBoost support: Often times if the cartridge inside needs to be replaced you may notice a decrease in signal, but the cartridge will usually appear black in color or damaged. This is something they will replace for you if needed. You can reach out to them here through their online help center: http://support.weboost.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Where should the lightning surge protector be installed within my setup?

It can be installed at the "top" of the setup (outside, between the antenna and the coax cable) or at the "bottom" (between the coax cable and the amplifier). Since the surge protector requires you to run a grounding wire into the ground, most users choose to install it at the "top" of their system. Either way, you will need a 2' "jumper" cable to connect the surge protector.
