Helps protect an amplifier or modem from power surges such as those caused by a lightning strike to an outside antenna. The protector is inserted inline between the outside antenna and the amplifier or adapter cable, and it must be adequately grounded by running a ground wire into the ground or concrete.
The protector does not connect directly to the amplifier or antenna. You will need a 2' jumper cable to connect the surge protector to your equipment, and depending on your setup, you may also need additional connectors. Refer to the sample setups below for more details:
If you are using an amplifier, the surge protector can be installed at the "top" of the setup (outside, between the antenna and the coax cable) or at the "bottom" (between the coax cable and the amplifier):
- Option A (surge protector installed outside near the antenna): antenna -> 2' cable* -> surge protector -> cable -> amplifier
- Option B (surge protector installed inside near the amplifier): antenna -> cable -> surge protector -> 2' cable* -> amplifier
If you are NOT using an amplifier (i.e. you're connecting your antenna directly to your modem via an adapter cable), you can still use the surge protector. Your setup will depend on whether you're using an antenna with a cable pre-attached to it or not:
- For antennas with pre-attached cable ending in FME/Female, you'll need a 971113 N/Male to FME/Male adapter and the 951110 2' cable: antenna -> 971113 adapter -> surge protector -> 2' 951110 cable -> adapter cable -> modem
- For antennas without pre-attached cable, the surge protector can be installed at the "top" of the setup (outside, between the antenna and the coax cable) or at the "bottom" (between the coax cable and the adapter cable):
- Option A (surge protector installed outside near the antenna): antenna -> 2' cable* -> surge protector -> cable -> adapter cable
- Option B (surge protector installed inside near the adapter cable): antenna -> cable-> 971113 adapter -> surge protector -> 2' 951110 cable -> adapter cable -> modem
*We carry two options for the 2' jumper cable:
- 952302 2' cable
- N/Male connectors on both sides
- Choose this cable if the antenna or amplifier you are connecting to the surge protector to has an N/Female connector
- 951110 2' cable
- N/Male connector on one side and FME/Female on the other
- Choose this cable if the antenna or ampliifer you are connecting to the surge protector has an FME/Male connector
NOTE: This is a lightning protector for 50ohm antennas/amplifiers. If you are using a 75ohm system like the SignalBoost DT or SignalBoost DB Pro amplifier kits, you need to purchase the 859992 75ohm Lightning Protector instead.
