The 3Gstore IP Power Switch is a simple product that automatically power-cycles any device when internet connectivity is lost. All you have to do is connect the included ethernet cable from the 3Gstore IP Switch to your router, and then connect the power cables of the devices that you want to be power-cycled when internet connectivity is lost, like your DSL modem and router. Once you have everything connected, press the "UIS" button, and everything will be up and running. The 3Gstore IP Switch automatically pings five different targets (which you can specify), and when it is unable to ping the specified targets, it will power-cycle any devices that are connected to its power source.

Uses for the 3Gstore IP Switch:

  • Home users who have to manually power-cycle their router to re-gain internet connectivity
  • IT Professionals who need to automatically or remotely reset devices
  • Preventing your connection from timing out or going dormant
  • Create an automatic power schedule (ex: turn on at 9am & turn off at 5pm)

If you are a current user of the IP Switch, you can download the latest version of the user manual here: IP Switch User Manual (PDF)

The primary feature of the unit is very simple: it monitors an internet connection and power-cycles the connected devices if the internet connection goes down. This simple feature alone can be very useful if your mobile broadband or cable/DSL connection drops, and all you need to do is reset the router to re-gain connectivity - this will automatically reset the router for you, without anyone having to visit the location and manually cycle power. While the unit's main feature is very simple and may be the only feature most customers will use, the unit also includes some more advanced features:

  • Web Interface: Allows you to monitor status, view logs, and change advanced settings & configurations via web browser
  • Power Scheduling: Up to 20 schedules may be set to turn power on/off to specific ports at specified times
  • Logs: To keep track of when the unit had to reset power, etc
  • Dynamic DNS Support & Remote Admin: Allows customers to log in via the web to access controls, view logs, and remotely turn on/off power to specific ports or reset power
  • GTalk Messenger Support: Sends you notifications and allows you to issue commands to check the status, as well as turn on/off power or power-cycle certain ports via GTalk
  • Advanced Network Configuration: Allows you to set up to obtain a static IP address and use different DNS servers and change HTTP web admin interface port
  • Save/Restore Configuration: Allows you to save and easily restore your configuration. Good for customers who are purchasing multiple units, as they can create a custom configuration file and apply it to all of their units instead of manually configuring each unit

Just what I needed to reboot my PC when it gets stuck booting and I'm away from home. This unit is well made and does exactly what it says on the tin.

So far so good. Easy install if you follow the install steps in exact order. Using primarily to simply reboot router if it locks up.

Great product and solves a huge problem for Rhodes that have vacation properties that rely on the Internet connection. They allow owners to remote their router remotely and other devices.

I bought 3 of these puppies and they work as advertised. Not only can you switch outlets remotely, but the units can also do automated switching, either if Internet connection is lost, based on a schedule, or if a specific gadget on your network becomes unreachable. Configuration via the web interface is simple and straight forward. The built-in webserver even supports "responsive" webpages, which means that if you connect via a web browser on your mobile phone or tablet, you get a mobile friendly layout of the configuration pages, with large selection buttons and menus. I'm impressed. Now some nitpicking: The suggested remote administration via Google Talk is a bit bizarre in my opinion. If you don't trust Google to access electrical outlets in your house, a more secure way in my opinion is to establish a VPN tunnel to your home network and then simply access the units built-in webserver. For some reason this more secure and straight forward approach is not described in the manual

We use it for remote locations with no staff. So we can reboot or have the system reboot items.

We have a retail store on Charter that has to reboot the cable modem whenever the connection drops. Easy fix, but annoying. I hesitantly dropped $100 on this little box to make the process much more automatic. In 2 minutes I was power cycling a couple lamps from the web interface. The best part? No Java required! It's actually a very nicely designed web interface that gave me more options than I'd hoped for even. I only needed one outlet, but I read that the 2-outlet version gave you much more control. It even has an NTP client for keeping your scheduled reboots in line. Stellar product.

I wish everything came as perfect as this device does. It fits the bill. Power cycle the outlets via Google Chat, web interface or if the network connection goes down. Perfect for me to cycle my Tivo and SDV adapter at the same time with "set reset 0" command sent via Google Chat. If you need to control some outlets via the net, this is the product to get!

This is used in a remote vacation home where the network provider isn't all that reliable. This has been in operation for over a year and has kept the network and security cameras alive during that time via periodic system resets to bring everything back on line when the network goes down. It has saved me numerous trips to manually reset the modem and router.

saves me the hassle of having to reboot my cable modem all the time!

This is the one you want, the BIG BIG BIG feature here is that it keeps a log of when it has had to reboot that you can get to with a fixed IP. I live in a rural area with an ISP that has no competition, meaning the internet goes in and our daily and the modem needs rebooted all the time. Without the logging I have no idea if it has been trying to connect or how many outages there have been. The similar item that is cheaper with only one outlet and works off an app does not have this feature, I have thrown that one away and am getting a couple more of these for the office and other. Could it be a little better, probably, but as far as I can tell there is nothing else that gets the job done close to this that I can find for retail users.
