I was getting a poor 3g signal in my home with my Myfi unit I use for home internet. When I attached the antenna and located it outside my house, ran the wires back in to the Myfi, I instantly got 4-5 bars, where I was only getting 1-2. Definite instant improvement. Would highly recommend if you have a "weak" signal. If you have "no" signal, I don't know if it would help.
