This router features an embedded modem and you will need a SIM card with active service from a compatible provider to use it. The BR1 has a standard 2FF SIM slot - if you plan to use a micro or nano SIM, you'll need a SIM adapter.

The Pepwave MAX BR1 Mini is the ideal mobile broadband router for fleet management, video surveillance, kiosks and other M2M applications. This rugged metal router comes with an embedded modem that is compatible with 4G LTE and 3G networks throughout North America, including Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint. Two redundant SIM slots are available that can be used for separate carriers, and by using the FusionHub Central Management settings, the router can be set to automatically switch off if you reach a data cap or cross a country border. Advanced GPS fleet tracking is built into every MAX BR1 Mini so you can manage and monitor buses, taxi cabs, semi-trucks and other commercial vehicles. This can be done from any Internet-connected device when you use Peplink’s InControl cloud management system. Even if the primary line is down, you can still gather data and configure devices by using an RS-232 port adapter that supports out-of-band management and provides an Ethernet LAN port. Any power source will be secure as well when you use the included AC terminal block for reliable power distribution in vehicles, ATMs and other non-standard locations.

With a BR1 Mini mobile router, users can experience 4G LTE throughput speeds of up to 65 Mbps that have the integrated security of Pepwave’s SpeedFusion VPN and AES encryption. This customizable networking tool can be used as a single-device primary cellular connector or as an adapter to provide cellular data service to a non-enabled router. It comes with four antennas for cellular, Wi-Fi and GPS. This lightweight router is backed by 3Gstore’s expert mobile broadband knowledge and leading customer support. Learn more by downloading the product brochure below or reading the MAX BR1 Mini customer reviews.

The optional failover/WAN license (see above) enables the WAN port (to support wired cable/DSL connections), the WiFi as WAN feature (to pick up external WiFi networks), and failover. If you do NOT need those features, you do not need the additional license (if you decide you want them in the future, the license can be purchased any time to unlock those features). If you only plan to use the cellular connection, you do not need the optional license!

Just finished installing the Pepwave on my boat. The signal strength is excellent even without the external antennas. Setup was a breeze just inserted my T-Mobile sim and the router was ready to go, didn't need any configuring. Construction on the unit is very good. Also should note 3gstore courtesy called just to answer any installation questions I had and to let me know they are here for tech support if I needed it.

Excellent replacement for Wi-Fi hotspot where plug-in power is available. Double the bandwidth or better than hotspot.

I've only been using this for a week but it's worked very well for me. I live in a rural area where my only internet access is Satellite or Cellular. This gives me the option to pursue the best service my family.

First impressions is impressive. My family gets internet through a Sprint non-profit organization. At first, it was not able to hold a connection, but after upgrading the firmware, it has no trouble holding the connection. I needed to download the firmware through a different internet connection because the device connection was sporadic. Now its consistent. I ran various speed tests from ookla, fast, speedof. me, etc. and results were about x2 - x6 faster over the Franklin r850 mobile hotspot. At peak usage times (6-10pm) my speeds improved from 0.2Mbps to 3Mbps.

cell performance has been flawless. new firmware I downloaded somehow corrupted and became unavailable which I wouldn't have noticed except it reverted to the second firmware after a manual reboot. I downloaded the new firmware again and it's been perfect since.
